  March with us and celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by joining Phoenix YP for the annual MLK Day Walk! This event is a powerful opportunity to honor his vision of unity and equality while connecting with the community.

  Destination: Margaret Hance Park

  The march will start at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church and conclude at Margaret Hance Park, where the MLK Festival will take place. Don’t miss the chance to take a group picture with Phoenix YP on the steps of the Arizona Regional Theatre after the walk.

  This event is open to the public, so invite your friends, family, and colleagues to join us in celebrating this special day. Together, we’ll walk to honor Dr. King’s enduring legacy of justice, progress, and community.

  ✨ What to Bring: Comfortable shoes, water, and any Phoenix YP swag if you have it!

  Join the call as we partner with our affiliate, the Greater Phoenix Urban League at the annual Arizona Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Festival. It will be held at Margaret T. Hance Park from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM on Monday, January 20. This family friendly festival is an event for the community to enjoy local entertainment, purchase goods and services from small businesses, and learn about community service organizations, like the Greater Phoenix Urban League Young Professionals. During the festival, YP volunteers will be talking with festival attendees about GPUL opportunities such as the Summer Youth Program, and about YP membership and upcoming events. All materials, promotional material, and talking points will be provided to volunteers.

  Interested volunteers should register for a volunteer shift(s). Volunteer shifts are available from 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM. Each shift is in 1 hour increments. You are welcome to sign up for multiple shifts.

  Optional Attire: YP swag* (T-Shirt, Jacket, Hat, etc..), comfortable shoes. This is a rain or shine event, so please pay attention to weather forecasts and dress appropriately.

  Volunteer Responsibilities: 

  • Help expedite the event and assist with set-up/take down. 
  • Connect with our community!  
  • Host a table to share information on Greater Phoenix Urban League initiatives, available community service opportunities, and upcoming YP Events (Join Week, and upcoming events, etc.)*
  • Speak with potential members of YP*
  • Goal: Minimum of two (2) volunteers on each shift

• ASU Sankofa Summit - Volunteers Needed!

  Join the Greater Phoenix Urban League Young Professionals (YPs) at Arizona State University (ASU) for the Sankofa Summit!

  The Summit is a half-day experience that builds on the foundation of the first-year student journey and supports second-year and upper-division students of African descent. Featuring graduate students, industry leaders, and peers, the summit focuses on fostering connections and providing tools to help students thrive academically and professionally, paving the way for graduation and career success.

  As part of the summit, students will go through a session on crafting their elevator pitches. Students will then practice their professional introductions with our YP's and other experienced professionals to receive valuable feedback.

  After the summit, students will head to the Sun Devil Women’s Basketball Game, and YPs are invited to join them with discounted tickets for just $5!
